Another golden voice has gone silent…

0_61_lafontaine_don He was a personal hero, and arguably one of the most talented and successful voiceover artists of all time.

Don LaFontaine, known as "The King Of The Voiceovers", has died of complications from a collapsed lung, he was 68 years old.

If you’re a movie goer, or watched television, you know doubt knew his voice. He was successful enough to spoof himself in a hilarious GEICO commercial a couple of years ago.

Most of his movie voiceovers begin with his deep voice edged with a suspenseful bent as he intoned the phrase "In a world where…". He did over 5000 movie trailers during his successful career, as well as an estimated 350,000 (!) commercial voice overs, plus countless network tv and radio voiceovers.

My bad imitations of him grace several episodes of Subject:CINEMA, particularly the "List" shows, and I can only hope that one day, I will be as successful as he was…

We’ll miss those golden tones, Don. May you find peace in the afterlife, and know that your voice is enshrined for millions of future generations to hear once again…
