2012 Sundance Film Festival Shorts Program
The program of short films screening at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival has just been announced. Last week I posted the complete lineup of feature-length films in competition and out-of-competition. Yesterday the final crop of features in the Premieres section was unveiled.
The numbers are impressive. 64 short films were selected from a record 7,675 submissions, a 16% increase over last year. “As technology allows greater access to short films as well as filmmaking tools, an increasing number of people are turning to short filmmaking as a form of expression and an opportunity to explore creative freedom,” Director of Programming Trevor Groth. “The fact that we received 1,200 more submissions in this category than last year speaks to that. Within them we saw a wave of truly original and outrageously distinctive films united by their uncompromised spirit.”
