eCinemaOne, The Kirkham Report, and Planet BiblioMusica has daily coverage of the days counting down to the Eurovision Song Contest 2018!

Over the coming weeks, sometimes more than once a day,  we will bring you daily previews of the contest, spotlighting each of the songs individually in random order, where they come from, who will be performing them, and more, as well as some historical info on the contest and some of the past winners and participants.

I hope everyone isn’t angry about missing the last entry on Friday and all day Saturday; I decided to go dark on EuroVision matters for 24 hours after the sudden and tragic passing of Avicii; as I said in my tribute post on Friday, I was a huge fan and he will be deeply missed by myself and all of his millions of fans. Now, it’s time to get back to business.

Next up on our Song-By-Song preview is the official entry from Moldova, “My Lucky Day” by DoReDos, written by Phillipp Kirkorov (music) and John Ballard (Lyrics). The band is from the city of Ribnita, and have been together for several years, made up of Marina Djundiet, Eugeniu Andrianov, and Sergiu Mîța. They have tried to represent Moldova twice before, but this is the first year they’ve been selected to do so. The song will be performed 7th in the competition order on the second semi-final on May 10.

I have to admit it – I didn’t know what to expect from this until I watched the video for the review…all I had seen was that hat..you know the one I mean, the on that is bigger than an old-fashioned backyard satellite dish, so attention-hogging that even Hyacinth Bucket from “Keeping Up Appearances” wouldn’t go near it. I was dreading watching this one. But you know what? I LOVE THIS SONG! This song is such a kicky and perky little song, and the three members of the group are obviously having so much fun singing it and making the video…everything about this song completely wowed me. And again, there’s that damn hat…which Marina ROCKS SOLID all the way through; other women cheer and clap when she goes by…hell, RuPaul himself wouldn’t be able to carry that monstrosity as well as she does…heh heh. US Chart fortunes are better than good if they can get a distribution deal – the song has a lot in common with 2017’s monster smash “Despacito” by Luis Fonzi and Daddy Yankee (you know, last year’s “Macarena“…SORRY, couldn’t resist…heh heh_) in both style and beat, and if a label were to work it hard and aim high, this trio from Moldova might become the first artist from their country (I think) to crack the Hot 100…

Moldova debuted in Eurovision in 2005, participating 13 times since then. Their best showing has been third place, which occurred just last year, with the (incredibly overrated IMHO) number “Hey Mamma!” by SunStroke. They have two more top ten finishes under their belt as well, and continue to produce tunes that EuroVision fans seem to love…
